Anthony Taylor

Associate Professor of Clarinet at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Principal Clarinetist for the Winston-Salem Symphony, Second and E-flat Clarinetist for the Eastern Music Festival, certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. I endeavor to put people before institutions: in my teaching, I seek to foster community where individual identity and authenticity are valued above compliance to institutional habits and needs. In addition, my interest in helping students become the most fearless and authentic versions of themselves has led me (1) to increase my effort to care for my own worries in order to be able to teach students how to do their own self-care amidst our increasingly chaotic world, and (2) to a sustained effort to investigate my own privileged identities. To live within this commitments––to stop every now and then and take a mindful breath in a world that always seems to be rushing, to examine my own privilege while operating within communities where willingness to consider even the existence of privilege widely varies––makes for a life that is never dull, and one where home, family, work, spiritual, and political arenas constantly intertwine.
